How to Connect a MIDI Keyboard to Your Web Browser (Web MIDI Guide)

Modern web browsers like Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge feature native support for the Web MIDI API. This technology allows web applications to communicate directly with your physical digital piano or MIDI controller with zero driver installation.

1. What Hardware You Need

  • A Digital Piano, Electronic Keyboard, or MIDI Controller with a USB Type-B (To Host) port or standard USB-C port.
  • A USB-A to USB-B cable (standard printer-style cable) or USB-C adapter.
  • A computer or tablet running Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, or Opera.

2. Step-by-Step Connection Instructions

  1. Plug your USB cable into your keyboard and connect the other end to your computer.
  2. Turn on your digital piano.
  3. Open KeysReveal in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
  4. When prompted by the browser with "KeysReveal wants to access your MIDI devices", click Allow.
  5. Press any key on your piano: the visual on-screen keyboard will instantly highlight the exact note in real-time!
